Family Adventure to the JFK Museum for the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing

Last weekend we ventured to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing. We chatted with NASA employees, saw satellite images of exploding stars, built models of a space ship, and sat through the 20 minute video chronicling the early life of JFK three times. (They liked exploring the space of the auditorium. I'm assuming they absorbed at least a little history as they were climbing around the ampitheater.)

The highlight was the Tape Art representation of the steps Neil Armstrong took as he walked on the moon. Despite the blazing heat, 100+ degrees plus humidity, the kids much preferred helping the artists to perusing the air conditioned museum. The artists gamely embraced their numerous questions and put them right to work making masking tape foot prints. It truly was remarkable to witness what they could do with just a simple roll of colored masking tape.

We ended the day by exploring the outside of the museum with its amazing architecture and beautiful views of the water and the Boston skyline. The kids discovered a sprinkler next to JFK's sailboat and ran through the refreshing spray over and over shrieking with glee. It was the perfect ending to a sweltering summer adventure.

As we walking back to the parking lot, shoeless, soaking wet Abigail climbed over the wall setting apart the lawn, instead of walking through the gate like everyone else. A passing stranger remarked, "She'll go far!" Yes, yes she will!
