The Prayer That's Rocking My World Right Now

One of the joys of reading is finding in someone else's writing words that perfectly capture the stirrings of my heart. This prayer was that for me. In an ideal world the kids and I would pray these words together every morning after breakfast before we start our day (in the real world that has happened, um, twice in two weeks), but I find myself breathing these words throughout my days in a way that has been healing to my soul.  I hope they are life-giving for you as well.

From Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

"O God, early in the morning, I cry to you.
Help me to pray and concentrate my thoughts on you.
I cannot do this alone!

In me there is darkness, but with you there is light.
I am lonely, but you do not leave me.
I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help.
I am restless, but with you there is peace.
In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience.
I do not understand your ways, but you know the way for me.

Restore me to freedom, and empower me to live now so that I may answer before you and before men.
Lord, whatever this day may bring, may your name be praised.

Amen."
