Homeschool Reviews: Hey Mama! Homeschool Planner for 2019/2020

Maybe you've noticed there's a lot of homeschool planners out there to choose from. From bullet journaling to spiral notebooks to the fancy, expensive planners to your basic free printables, there are a lot of options to choose from in planning your homeschool year.

What makes the Hey Mama! Homeschool Planner for 2019/2020 Year special is that it is a devotional planner. It has all the great tools for scheduling and record-keeping that you'll ever need, but it also has inspiring devotional letters to us as homeschool moms written by homeschool veteran Gena Suarez, one of the founders of The Old Schoolhouse®.

Gena's words are so encouraging to me. Clearly she has walked the homeschooling journey and knows the highs and lows that we're all feeling. You can tell she has prayed over these words with great care and that her heart is to see homeschool mamas living out their God-given calling in their families.

One of the devotions that really resonated with me is called Homeschool Purpose. It begins,
What does homeschooling mean to you? Are you doing it because it's a current popular trend or just convenient? Maybe you travel a lot or your kids have special needs? Is it just a means to an end? Were your children being bullied in public school and you thought this would be the solution? So maybe it's just temporary. Or perhaps you were homeschooled yourself and it's simply a way of life or all you know.
But what if things change? What if you no longer travel or your kids start asking to enroll at the local government school? What if they want to see what classrooms look like, make different friends, and experience a daily couple of rides on that big, yellow bus? What, then?
Right now you are homeschooling or getting ready to start. The reason why you bought this book is because you want to be prepared and encouraged in your homeschooling journey. But Mama, think hard about the reasons behind the surface-level why homeschool.
If you are in Christ, if you love the Lord, then you love His Word. You cherish and follow His instructions. You also recognize that he has a plan for your life, and the lives of your children, too. He directs your path, placing your feet firmly and securely in His will. Simply walk in his love. You don't have to be confused or second-guess yourself - not if you are in the Lord, pursuing his plans for you, daily.
To me this type of encouragement from a Mama who has been there is the real gold of this planner!

In addition to the Biblical encouragement, the Hey Mama! Homeschool Planner has all the practical helps you need to get your homeschool planning in order:

  • Yearly calendars for the next three years
  • A planning sheet and double page monthly calendar for each month from July 2019 to June 2020 (as year round homeschoolers I love that she gives planning space for the summer months as well!)
  • Weekly lesson planning pages giving you space to write out objectives for each subject with separate columns for each child up to five students
  • Reading logs for multiple students
  • Goal planning sheets for yearly, semester and character goals
  • A curriculum shopping list
  • Lots of record keeping and transcript helps such as attendance sheets, course checklists, and an academic transcript to fill in

I'm looking forward to using this planner as I set our goals for the coming year. I know it will not only keep me organized, but also help me to center myself in Christ and his objectives for our homeschool as I plan out our year.
