Learning to love nature through literature from Greta Eskridge

This post captures everything I love most and everything I aspire to in our homeschool. Awesome encounters with the Creator, a family culture built around timeless works of literature, and loads of quality family time!  Greta's family inspires me, and I can't wait to peruse more of her blog. I love soaking up the wisdom of homeschooling families who are farther along in this journey than I am.

The likely cause of addiction has been discovered by Johan Hari

Turns out the narrative our culture has fed us on addiction has little basis in fact. It's not the chemical hook of certain substances that produces addiction. This explains why virtually anything can gain an addictive power over the right person in the right circumstances. In reality it's a lack of quality connection that leads to addiction, or as Hari writes, "The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. It is human connection." The flip side is equally powerful. We can protect our children from succumbing to the grip of addiction by filling their lives with the security of life-giving relationship. So gaze deep into your loved ones eyes, hold them close, and learn how to foster strong connection.

Why volunteering is the biggest issue facing the church with Paul Alexander

It is a joy to be a part of a church that has such a strong culture of service. This article does a great job of explaining why serving needs to be at the center of our life as the Body of Christ.

Sometimes in the moment when emotions are running high it is really hard to think of an empathetic response. This is another one I need to print out and post where I can see it.

Looking forward to trying this recipe this week.

And here's my favorite, most thought-provoking image from the web this week:
